3D Printer
The ATC has a Trifecta 800 filament printer as part of its VariQuest design center. We exclusively use vegetable-based PLA filament for printing.
If you would like to use the printer, you will need to bring a digital file with you for the three-dimensional object you would like to print. There are a number of programs that can be used to design your own object from scratch (any CAD program, Autodesk, etc.). The file you bring with you must be in the .stl format, which is a standard for 3D printers. We do not own conversion software, so it is your responsibility to come with the correct file.
In addition to creating your own object from scratch, there are numerous websites devoted to sharing 3D files. Thingiverse, Pinshape, and STL Finder are just three examples. Again, if you choose to find an object to print online, be sure you are bringing an .stl file with you.
We do request a donation to cover the cost of the filament used in printing your object. The cost is calculated based on the finished weight (in grams) of your print.
Depending on the size and resolution, some prints may take many hours to complete. You will need to be present for the start of your print, and should plan on being back before it is scheduled to be completed.
If you would like to come use the printer, please complete the following form at least a week prior to your planned visit. We will get back to you as soon as possible regarding availability.
